Travel through the original colonial city, La Nouvelle Orleans. Learn of the remarkable history and rise of this former backwater settlement to one of the largest and most prosperous cities in America. 

Heritage:

Stop at the free people of color museum to learn of their rich contributions and positive impact on the city. Step back in time at the New Orleans Lakefront Airport, built in the 1930’s, as the most modern and largest airports in America. Marvel about the building that is considered to be one of the  finest examples of Art Deco Architecture in the country.

Art:

See the family home of Edgar Degas built in 1850 where Degas lived and created some of his finest work. Enjoy a ride through City Park where nature and art intersect in creative, sustainable ways in one of the finest outdoor gardens in the country amidst the largest grove of live oak trees in the world.

On this four hour tour, you will see sights and landmarks rarely seen by visitors. Your tour starts off in the historic French Quarter with our licensed and informative guide describing the early influences of Native Americans, enslaved people of color and immigrants from around the world in this port city.

On our Aha Nola Tour, The Great Delta Tours will take our guests to neighborhoods throughout the city, including Faubourg Marigny, the first downriver residential suburb of New Orleans, and Bywater, with its hipster art scene and bohemian vibe. Travel through the lower 9th Ward to view the historic landmarks of  “Twin Steamboat Houses” and the home of Fats Domino, the father of Rocknroll.

Stop in a local art working space in the Arabi cultural district to meet a local artist and learn of their work. Enjoy refreshments as you stroll and view this inspired art.

Retrace the steps of general Andrew Jackson on the Chalmette Battlefield where one of the biggest military upsets in American history took place when American forces, outmanned and outgunned, routed the British in the defining battle of the war of 1812. 

Travel through one of the most important Delta River environments in the world. Learn of the wetlands, wildlife, fisheries and coastal restoration work underway that is ensuring the region’s future.

Stop to tour and have lunch at the beautifully renovated New Orleans Lakefront Airport, one of the finest examples of Art Deco Architecture in the country built in 1934. Enjoy the exquisite restored murals  by Xavier Gonzales and sculptures by Enrique Alvarez.

Travel through city park and one of the finest sculpture gardens in the country. Wind down the Grand Boulevard of Esplanade to pause that the historic Degas House where the impressionist painter, Edgar Degas lived and created some of his finest work. On the way back to your accommodations, experience the Treme neighborhood, as well as the downtown and business district of New Orleans.
