What Birds Will I See?

Brown Pelican

As the state bird of Louisiana, Brown Pelicans are commonly known for their large bill and comical, yet graceful appearance. But what many people don’t realize is that these birds were once on the brink of extinction. If you see a Brown Pelican on your tour, you’re looking at one of the biggest and most celebrated birds of the Great Mississippi River Delta!

Looking as much like a dinosaur as a bird, the lanky Double Crested Cormorant is a powerful fishing bird of the Great Mississippi River Delta, and easily recognizable with black feathers and a orange-yellow face. If you’re lucky, you might see a few of these birds flying low above the water, waiting to pounce to pick up a tasty, fishy meal!
